About the College

The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences was established at the beginning of the academic year 2007–2008, after previously functioning as a Department of Physical Education under the College of Education at Tikrit University. Its establishment came in response to the academic and athletic needs of society, aiming to serve as a specialized scientific platform in the field of physical education and sports sciences.

The college is considered one of the leading academic institutions in this field, striving to prepare qualified scientific cadres that contribute to the development of sports activities, the advancement of school and university sports, and the fulfillment of the needs of educational and athletic institutions both locally and nationally.

Since its founding, the college has witnessed remarkable development in its academic and administrative structure. Since then, it has continued to play a vital role in strengthening the position of Tikrit University within society, by embedding the values of knowledge, work, and social responsibility in the realm of sports.

The mission of our college is educational, scientific, professional, and academic, specializing in the fields of physical education and sports sciences. It aims to prepare and qualify teachers specialized in physical education and sports sciences, in addition to their pioneering role in advancing the sports movement within society.

The objectives of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences can be summarized as follows:

  1. Preparing male and female teachers of physical education and sports sciences for different educational stages (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD), with pedagogical and scientific qualifications in teaching, training, organization, and management within the fields of physical, health, and recreational education.

  2. Employing modern scientific methods in teaching, training, authorship, and scientific research.

  3. Providing educational and scientific research and studies that contribute to the quality of the educational process to the relevant institutions.

  4. Working to develop the sports movement across all sectors of society in cooperation with sports institutions.

  5. Contributing to the development of physical education and sports sciences programs in society.

  6. Focusing on individuals with special needs, supporting this social group, and working to fulfill their physical, skill-based, psychological, and social interests and aspirations.

Improving the standard and quality of life in society through scientific and professional achievements in the fields of physical, sports, and recreational activities that affect the quality of life for all segments of society. The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences seeks to develop knowledge related to physical, sports and recreational activities and their applications by creating a quality educational environment that takes into account Islamic values and principles and aims to achieve excellence in preparing specialists in physical education, sports management, sports sciences and recreation, and to qualify and competent researchers to work in various relevant community institutions and provide services in their field of specialization to various sectors of society in order to improve the quality of life for all its members.
